I sent in my time sheet today. It is the first full time sheet that reflects our new pay scale. We were being paid by the hour (per PC Miler runs at 53 mph). Now, we take that same run and look at the miles verses the hours. We are being paid a fair wage of .36 per mile. Plus, if we have any detention time, demurrage time, etc., we will be paid by the hour. Of course, there are some stipulations to that, but based on what the other trucking companies are doing, they are fair also.
The only really bad thing is the fact that we are no longer receiving our Per Diem pay. We were making a total of $25.00 per day on the road, but our owner stopped paying that. I looked at one run before the changes happened and the pay per mile was going to pay me about the same as the pay per hour plus my Per Diem. We’ll see what happens then Friday when the pay checks come in.

Dean and I will be heading out tomorrow morning for El Segundo, CA (just south of LAX), then up to Portland, OR. We don’t know if there will be any empties at ChemLog in Portland, so we may have to get a back haul from somewhere around there. The load is going to be very heavy and that’s not a good thing going into California, but Tony says that he’s got most of it worked out. We’ll have a little bit of changes to do before heading that direction. We’ll probably have to put fuel on in one tank at a time. Oh well, that’s trucking. .

After getting home from VA on Wednesday… Tony asked how many hours I had left. I didn’t have enough to do anything that day, but I could work on Thursday. So Tony had me come in and deliver a load in Waller, TX and pickup a couple of skids in Houston, TX, then home. I’m on my 34 hour break and will go out tomorrow to Salt Lake City, UT.
I’ll leave out tomorrow around noon. I’m not sure when it’s due there, but the SLC run has gotten shorter since I’ve learned how to drive it. I will be taking a little different route than I’ve taken the last few times and it’s one that I’ve taken before. I want to see how much time it takes going that way. Instead of going north of Albuquerque, I’ll head west to Gallup and go north from there. It should be fine.

After getting back from Salt Lake City, Tony assigned truck # 5096 to me. It’s not a great truck, but it will allow me to go anytime Tony has a run for me instead of having to wait for a truck. Hooray! A photo will come later.
